PRIENE MILETUS DIDYMA TOUR

Following your pick-up from the Hotel, the tour begins with a scenic drive along the Aegean Coast to the ancient Greek city of Priene. This 2,500-year-old Ionian city was the first to be planned with a grid system of streets. . Accompanied by our tour guide, set out to explore the ruins and get a sense of ancient life as you stroll through the agora, admire the grand theater, and see the remains of the gymnasium and Roman Baths. You will see archaeological highlights such as the Bouleuterion, the Temple of Demeter, and the dramatically situated Temple of Athena, which stands at the foot of a sheer rock face.

The tour then moves onto the ruins of Miletos, once one of Anatolia’s largest cities, perched on the banks of the Meander River. Learn about the city’s long history, which dates back to Hittite times, and discover its strategic importance during the Greek and Roman era, situated on one of the major trade routes. Take time to explore the ruins both with and without your guide, and be sure to visit the star attraction – the gigantic 25,000-seat Roman theater, one of the most impressively preserved in Anatolia. After breaking for lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant.

EPHESUS & VIRGIN MARY HOUSE & SIRINCE VILLAGE TOUR

After a 1-hour drive from the Hotel, the  tour starts with a visit to the best preserved and restored ancient city in Turkey. You will visit Ephesus which is known to be the commercial, religious, and social center of antiquity. Ephesus is probably the best combination of Greek, Roman and Byzantine civilizations. With the mythological stories and spectacular ruins, you will feel the ancient life in Ephesus.

You will see the fountains of Trojan, Polio, the Temple of Hadrian and Domitian, Private House, the Library of Celcius, Varius and Scolastica Baths, Bouloterion and the Great Theatre with a capacity of 24,000 spectators. After lunch, you will visit the House of Virgin Mary where she spent last days of her life, located on Mt. Koressos (Mount Nightingale). Thereafter you will visit the Basilica of St. John, which was constructed by Justinian I in the 6th century.

Then we will go to Sirince village, which was once called Cirkince ("ugly"). Indeed its habitants gave this name on purpose as they did not want to be bothered by foreigners nor to share the beauty of their village. Still after years, visitors understood that the village was not ugly at all and called it Sirince ("pretty"). As the village is located on the top of a mountain, anyone will enjoy the impressive wine yards' and peach trees' views on his way. Today the village is a perfect synthesis of Turk-Greek culture as of the 1920's: after the Independence War, people exchange between Greek and Turks has occurred and all those typical Greek houses, though they kept their original outside characteristics, have received the local layout inside. The most beautiful specimens are open to visitors. And even in the courtyard of one of them, one will discover a nicely restorated Orthodox church. All the narrow streets of the village belong to the women, selling handcrafts of all kinds, olive oil. Another attraction of Sirince is its wine: try its taste in small cafés or in the former municipal school restorated. At the end of the tour you will be transferred to your hotel.
